Check out our in-depth, expert review of this suspense novel Concealed in Death for everything you need to know before you pick up the book. J.D. Robb is one of several pseudonyms that famed romance novelist Nora Roberts publishes under. In this review, you'll find interesting facts about the author and recommendations for similar books. This review deftly points out where the author succeeded, as well as where she fell short. Readers will love the cast of strong but diverse female characters, but anyone familiar with the In Death series may feel let down by the comparative lack of action. Tucked within the review you'll also find an analysis of the most memorable scene, an alternative outcome that may have worked better, and plenty of eye-openers to take away. Lastly, discover what "those in the know" think about this book, as you read quotes from expert critics and reviewers. Festive in Death: by JD Robb | Summary & Analysis
Book*Sense - 2014
Robb. Within Festive in Death, the 39th instalment of the “In Death” series by author J. D. Robb, fans of the genre are re-united with their favorite kick-ass-and-take-names female cop, Lieutenant Eve Dallas. New readers will quickly find a new heroine. J. D. Robb is a pseudonym for Nora Roberts, author of hundreds of novels. Roberts’ work has reached number one on the New York Times’ best sellers list. Her heroines are strong, capable women who, though flawed, resonate greatly with readers. Perhaps it is because they display their strengths while remaining decidedly feminine. In Festive in Death, Eve Dallas and her coterie are true to Robb/Robert’s vision. As they undertake a murder investigation, the women project intelligence, diligence, strength, wit and womanly intuitions/sensibilities which we breakdown in this companion. This romance mystery hits the rights notes where the romance is concerned. Eve’s husband, Roarke, is nothing if not uxorious: He positively dotes on Eve. When the two are together, the chemistry is almost palpable. Their love and sexual attraction is believable, and their repartee is an absolute delight. Indeed, in this reviewer’s opinion, their banter is the outstanding feature of the novel. Though, it should be noted Festive in Death also has its own shortcomings which will all be covered in this companion/analysis. This Analysis of Festive in Death fills the gap, making you understand more while enhancing your reading experience.

Lei Crime Series Boxed Set: Books 1-4
Toby Neal - 2014
No one can read just one! "Toby Neal's storytelling skills are evident in these books about a female law enforcement office in the Hawaiian Islands. The characters are always strong, interesting people with many layers to their personalities. Their actions often surprise, but not without clues laid by the author that help the reader understand. The plots are crafted with care, created so that they flow naturally and never feel forced. The stories pull in the reader and make it impossible to put down the books; I've often lost sleep when reading her latest because I end up reading late into the night. Most importantly, these books are a sort of immersion course in Hawaiian culture, food, and geography. There are many layers of details in these novels, information about native Hawaiians and those new to the islands, how the various cultures sometimes clash, how outsiders may have to alter their behaviors to be accepted fully. The food descriptions alone are enough reason to read the books.I loved every book in this series, each one adding to the story of Lei, her life, her family, her complex history, and finally, her growth into an amazing law enforcement officer." Ninie Hammon - 2014
In 1989, federal authorities busted what they called the Cornbread Mafia, the largest domestic marijuana growing operationin American history. They confiscated 182 tons of pot with a street value-- in 1989!--of $400 million. Federal marshals arrested 56 men in 5 states...but they all came from one small town in Kentucky. FICTION... Somebody murdered Jim Bingham, shot him dead in front of his own newspaper office in the small town of Brewster, and now his heartbroken daughter must abandon the world of academic journalism for the real world of running the newspaper he left behind. But Sarabeth Bingham soon discovers that marijuana-growing has corrupted the idyllic small town where she grew up. The sheriff can't get a marijuana conviction because the county's jury pool is tainted. Her cousin grows weed and has lost his wife and daughter to the world of drugs. Sarabeth finds herself falling for a handsome bourbon distillery owner she's convinced is financing his business with dope money. And a ruthless farmer named Bubba Jamison will do anything--absolutely anything--to protect his empire. After 3 children find dope money in an abandoned building and the dopers kidnap them to get it back, Sarabeth heeds the words on the plaque that has hung above her father's desk for as long as she can remember: "Don't mess with a man who buys ink by the barrel!" In a blazing front-page editorial in the next issue of the Tribune, Sarabeth declares war on the marijuana-growing industry! Now, the growers have to shut her up and she soon learns a terrifying lesson: dopers fight dirty. * * * Home Grown isn't the true story of the rise and fall of the Cornbread Mafia, not from a historical perspective; thrillers like this are too intricately woven to stick to the facts. But the novel is as real as what actually did happen, a mystery thrillers and suspense story with a female protagonist who grabs the reader and drags him into the action to live it with her. Sarabeth Bingham isn't the stereotypical heroine of sappy contemporary women's fiction. She is flawed, human and real. She has multiple sclerosis and a past filled with the kind of pain that's the mortar for building walls. Home Grown gives crime fiction a heart--and the face of a red-haired woman who didn't set out to be a hero.

CSI Reilly Steel 3 Book Boxset
Casey Hill - 2014
For fans of Patricia Cornwell, Tess Gerritsen, Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner TABOO Forensic investigator Reilly Steel, Quantico-trained and California-born and bred, imagined Dublin to be a far cry from bustling San Francisco, a sleepy backwater where she can lay past ghosts to rest and start anew. She's arrived in Ireland to drag the Garda forensics team into the 21st-century plus keep tabs on her Irish-born father who's increasingly seeking solace in the bottle after a past tragedy. But a brutal serial killer soon puts paid to that. A young man and woman are found dead in a hotel room, the gunshot wounds on their naked bodies suggesting a suicide pact. But as Reilly and the team dig deeper, and more bodies are discovered, they soon realise that a twisted murderer is at work, one who seeks to upset society's norms in the most sickening way imaginable… INFERNO Read the clues. Decode the science. Reveal the murderer. That's Reilly Steel's mantra. Find the answers, solve the crime. But the Quantico-trained forensic investigator is finding her skills aren't enough when a ferociously intelligent killer strikes Dublin. The modus operandi is as perplexing as it is macabre. What connects two seemingly disparate, high-profile victims? Their corpses refuse to give up their secrets and the crime scenes prove a forensic investigator's worst nightmare. Reilly soon suspects that she may be dealing with a killer - or killers - who know all about crime scene investigation. It's only when a third murder occurs - equally graphic and elaborate in its execution - that they discover that this particular killer is using a very specific blueprint for his crimes. Who is the killer's next victim, the real target? And what's his endgame? HIDDEN A Fallen Angel. A Devil on the Loose. When a young girl is discovered dead on an isolated Irish country road, it seems at first glance to be a simple hit and run. Then the cops see the tattoo on her back - a pair of beautifully wrought angel wings that lend the victim a sense of ethereal innocence. Forensic investigator Reilly Steel is soon on the scene and her highly tuned sixth sense tells her there is more to this case than a straightforward murder. But with almost zero evidence and no way to trace the girl's origin, Reilly and the police are at a loss. Then the angel tattoo is traced to other children - both dead and alive - who are similarly marked, and Reilly starts to suspect they have all been abducted by the same person. But why? And will Reilly get to the bottom of the mystery and uncover what links these children together before tragedy strikes again?
When Butterflies Cry: A Novel
Ninie Hammon - 2014
And that's not even the worst thing he's come home to. And just so you know going in—that dam holding back a 300-million-gallon lake on the mountainside above the little coal camp town of Saddler Hollow—that dam’s going to blow. Grayson Addington comes home to Saddler Hollow, West Virginia, from Vietnam a broken man, ravaged by post traumatic stress syndrome, a chaplain who left his faith in the jungle mud with his massacred unit. His wife, Piper, doesn’t know her husband anymore. In his absence, she turned to his brother Carter for support. Now, she must choose between them—and Carter will stop at nothing to have her. And into this family torn apart by jealousy, deceit and clan loyalties comes a mysterious little girl. Maggie, a battered child with amnesia, shows up on the Addington's front porch and instantly bonds to Sadie, Piper and Grayson’s cripplingly shy toddler. When Maggie runs away and takes Sadie with her, the warring brothers must team up to search for them. But something more than chance has brought the child called Maggie to this wounded family. And nothing less than destiny will be fulfilled by her incredible act of love--on the foggy morning when the coal slag dam at the top of the hollow explodes. Interview with the author: Q. What’s so special about When Butterflies Cry? A. It’s real life on paper. It’s been a Kindle bestseller because the characters in the novel come to life on the page—like the family next door in a small town. The story is gripping, the action nail-biting. Q. Is this a Christian book? A. There’s no religion in it. But there is spirituality--themes of love and sacrifice that touch the soul of readers of any faith—or no faith at all. Q. Why should readers give this book a try? A. Because it’s a book that will break your heart, and then put it back together again. Goodreads and Amazon Reader Reviews Wow. I have found a new favourite author. She is so good and I’ve been burned a lot lately by really bad free books, written poorly and full of mistakes. This is the kind of contemporary women’s fiction I want but usually don’t find in a free book. A (no spoilers) sacrifice makes the book inspirational, but its filled with suspense too. Even though its during the 60's or 70s war in Vietnam, the story itself felt timeless and contemporary and so real I forgot it was fiction and it kept me in suspense way past my bedtime to find out what happened. Sarah Bridges I’m a city girl and I never thought my heart would break over a story about a small town in West Virginia. Not what I expected from a typical paranormal thriller--its a mystery with lots of suspense, like other reviewers said, it was unique. But it is during the Viet Nam war times, and not contemporary fiction like it said. You should read it, but have lots of tissues handy. It was inspirational to me how the chaplain kept hanging on and "doin’ the necessary" and then got home and found his brother with his wife—but I won’t spoil the suspense. I think the mystery about the butterflies landing on her was she was paranormal.
